The Kitten Collective

A collaboration with Kristina Lovaas, Joanna Baucic, Naima Kazmi, and Jasmine Oh.

The Kitten Collective is a self-identified female art and performance collective. Drawing inspiration from the history of women’s performance art, we strive to use our bodies to challenge dominant conceptions of subjecthood and to challenge ourselves to break from those moulds. Embracing play, exploration, sexuality, anger, humour, banality, fantasy and the creative potential of mistakes, our objects and actions never try to make the viewer feel inadequate or alienated; rather, our work is at once celebration and critique - we embrace our audience and ourselves.

Over the course of one year, the Kitten Collective met regularly to discuss and create artworks that explore our relationship to ourselves, to our environments, and to each other. The Kitten Collective Exhibition is the result of these meetings - a collection of objects and images created both independently and communally. All of the lightbulbs in the gallery were changed to pink.

During the course of the exhibition, nightly events/readings/provocations were held.
